The other day when I was randomly walking in the Cold Storage near my house, I came across the small section they have for protein and energy bars. As someone who has never tried any protein bar apart from “MP Combat” I was eager to give a few of them a try to see how they stand against the normal protein powder shake and the MP Combat that I usually take.
SiS Protein Bar (20G)

Probably one of the normal-looking protein bars out there. Not much color or crazy wording on the packaging, just the product description and the mere 20 grams of protein. There isn’t any immediate red flag when looking at the nutritional information on the packaging. 210 kcal is pretty reasonable for a 20-gram protein bar. 2 grams of fiber is pretty low and it probably won’t fill the stomach for more than an hour or two. The amount of carbohydrate is a bit alarming, but since they are mostly from Polyols (humans do not contain the enzymes necessary to break these down, hence they can’t be absorbed and they don’t raise the blood sugar), and there are only 0.6 grams of sugar inside, it’s not a big deal.

Unfortunately, I can’t say many positive things about the taste and texture. Coming from the MusclePharm Combat Crunch bars I’m used to more natural texture and taste. The chocolate taste was bitter and nice, but it left a weird artificial after taste which was hardly washed with water. Speaking of water, the chocolate bar was very dry and hard to chew, which would make it difficult to take without any drink.

Quest Protein Chips

This is a purchase I never thought I would make. Protein Chips!. Even the name sounds gimmicky at best. That’s why when I checked the nutrition facts as a joke and I saw the low numbers I was so shocked. 140 Calories for 19 grams of protein is a pretty good deal. And it’s even better when it comes to sugar level which is at 1 gam! Given that there is only 1 gram of fiber inside as well, this is more like a snack rather than a meal, or something to keep the body full for a while.

The other nice thing regarding the “Quest Protein Chips” is the taste. I chose the sour cream because I love the taste and it’s something I am familiar with. And still, I wouldn’t have been able to guess this is not a normal potato chip if I didn’t know it was a protein chip. Overall I’m really happy with the Quest Protein Chips and wish to try it again soon.
